About the Artwork
Sung Soo Kim has produced several series of artworks that illustrate his sense of isolation triggered by the differences that he experienced between Korea and France whilst living in France as an international student. In particular, this series features tangled straight lines of a steel structure that wrap around the outside of a glass pyramid. These images depict how modern society is becoming increasingly filled with emptiness despite its intricate facade growing more glamorous and intricate brought about by human desires.
About the Artist
He was born in Busan and graduated from Pusan National University with a degree in Painting. He also studied in École nationale supérieure d'art de Dijon (DNSEP). Since his first exhibition held in Dijon in France in 2001, he has participated in different exhibitions held by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Busan Museum of Art and other venues. In 2005, he was a residency artist in the Changdong Residency program arranged by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. His works have been purchased by the Seoul Museum of Art and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
