About the Artwork

“Coexistence “ is a tranquil scenery of a whale, sea turtles, and fish happily swimming together in the ocean, created in Ganz’s signature style of 3d impressionism using reclaimed plastic objects. With the LED lights gently glowing through multi colored plastic items, this installation takes the viewers into the worlds of picture books. Upon further examination however, viewers can also observe that these plastic items are some of the very same items that are polluting our oceans and causing great harm to the same animals these sculptures represent.

About the Artist

Sayaka Ganz was born in Yokohama, Japan and brought up in Japan, Brazil, and Hong Kong. She presently lives and works in the United States. After researching a variety of mediums ranging from ceramics to print during her college days in the United States, she began using recycled domestic plastic articles as her main material. Ironically, she has produced seemingly live animals with abandoned plastic goods and mass produced objects which will eventually destroy the ecosystem.
